SunRise Academy's mission is two fold:
- We provide a stimulating and structured educational environment that assists in the development of discipline, order, family values and respect for authority.
- We provide the education, training and realistic experiences between school and the world of work leading to career development.

SunRise Academy was established in 1999 as a private, non-profit, Special Education Institution in the District of Columbia where the focus is on individualized instruction and tailoring the program to the student. The purpose was to create an environment in which each student's ability and learning style would flourish, with particular emphasis placed on individual responsibility, community service and culture.
SunRise Academy was founded by Charles Emor, with Makini Niliwaambieni as the founding Principal. Although the staff have changed periodically since inception, Mr. Emor continues to lead the program as Director with Ms. Niliwaambieni in the role of Principal. The school is located at 1130 6th St. NW, Washington, DC. SunRise Academy is a non-discriminatory, equal opportunity institution.
