The general premise of the Academy's philosophy is predicated on the belief that all children can learn in a stimulating and structured environment. As educators committed to our youth, we believe we have both an obligation and a responsibility to collaborate with families and other agencies while assisting in the academic, social and vocational development of our children. The Academy emphasizes a comprehensive team approach that incorporates parents, advocates, teachers, students and administrators. A cardinal point of the SunRise philosophy is not only to remediate and educate our students, but to foster their willingness to take responsibility as active and independent learners, and to become their own advocates in society.

SunRise strives to prepare its students for re-entry into the educational mainstream when and where appropriate. Special counseling is provided to help each student in the transition towards his goal. Every effort is made to enable all students with an awareness of how they as individuals learn and to develop the confidence necessary to attempt difficult tasks with the expectation of success.
